“Reading Is Key”
From early kindergarten to the end of a PhD reading is key to any education. In classical Christian education we find even more importance must be given to reading. Learning from history, enjoying the great books, and exploring our own imagination are just some of the inextricable connections to the skill and commitment to reading. Veritas Press founder and president Marlin Detweiler will present this talk about the essential place reading occupies in classical education. In addition to founding Veritas Press, Mr. Detweiler helped found two ACCS accredited schools, Veritas Academy (PA) and The Geneva School (FL).
“A Kuyperian Vision of Christ’s Lordship” (video)
At this summer’s ACCS Conference, Dr. George Grant presented a compelling portrait both of Abraham Kuyper, a Dutch pastor and statesman, and of his plan for cultural engagement based on Christ’s lordship. Kuyper’s commitment allowed God to transform Holland, and his thought continues to affect the church and the world. We will watch together and discuss the implications of Kuyper’s thought.

“Eliminating Viruses from Your Worldview”
Dominion was pleased to present a worldview seminar by Buddy Hanson on Thursday, May 10, 2007, at 7 PM as part of our continuing Foundational Workshop series. Mr. Hanson is President of the Christian Policy Network. He works with Christian Legislators to explain whether or not proposed legislation conforms to biblical principles. Buddy is sometimes referred to as the “Coach of Christendom” for his ability to breakdown large cultural issues into small, easy-to-understand fundamentals, then fit them back together into a “Game Plan” in order to illustrate not only what we’re supposed to do, but how to do it. His numerous books are designed to help us “connect our Spiritual Dots” and live-out our faith.
“Classical Education and the University Schedule”
Our second Dominion Foundational Workshop was held on Friday, January 6, 2007. The workshop featured Mr. Scott Taylor. Mr. Taylor is currently the Founding Headmaster at Paideia Academy in Knoxville, TN. Paideia is a distinctively classical, Christ-centered, covenantal school using a five-day per week program with three days conducted in a classroom setting and two days at home. Thank you Scott and all the families that made the workshop a success.
“The Origin and Purpose of Classical Education”
Thank you to Dr. Chris Perrin of Covenant Christian Academy and everyone that attended the first Dominion Foundational Workshop. Dr. Perrin taught at Messiah College and Chesapeake Theological Seminary and served as headmaster of Covenant Christian Academy in Harrisburg, PA from its founding in 1997 until 2007. He currently serves as publisher with Classical Academic Press, which publishes texts and media for classical schools and home schools. In addition to the essential booklet An Introduction to Classical Education: A Guide for Parents, he is co-author of the Latin for Children series published by Classical Academic Press.
